Position: Utility Billing Clerk

City of Hawthorne is currently seeking a full-time or part-time Utility Billing Clerk. Duties include maintenance of utility billing accounts, receiving and posting payments for billing and deposits, with printing, posting and tracking of utility bills; preparation for mailing of bills; reconciling utility deposit records; maintaining utility billing accounts receivable records; preparing shut-off lists; assessing and recording late penalties. Performs varied clerical and secretarial services, greets the public; acts as receptionist; answers telephone; responds to questions as appropriate.   Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or GED and valid Florida driver’s license.  Starting salary $7.00 - $8.00 / hour.  Applications available HERE, at City Hall or by calling 352-481-2432.  Application Open Until Filled.

Position: Police Officer

City of Hawthorne Police Department is currently seeking motivated FT and PT Florida certified police officers to join our team.  This is a newly created department that will serve a rapidly growing population of 1,500 residents.  We are a small town full service police department, founded on community policing and dedicated to providing unparalleled service to our citizens. Starting salary $12.00 - $14.00 / hour.  Application Open Until Filled. 

    • U.S. citizenship
    • 18 years of age
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Valid Florida license
    • Good physical condition
    • Good moral character, no felony convictions
    • Honorable military discharge, if applicable
    • No smokers or other use of tobacco products
    • State certified officer or experienced as a police officer in another state
    • Must be willing to work different shifts, weekends and holidays
