Parks and Recreation
The City of Hawthorne maintains a city park on Johnson
Lake. This park includes playground facilities,
picnic shelters, boat ramp and fishing dock. We
are currently planning a remodeling project for the
restroom facilities in the park.
The City's new Recreation Park off of Highway 20 on
the northwest side of town has two baseball fields, two
softball fields, and a tee-ball field, with full dugouts
on all the fields. One field is has full lighting
and the City recently received a grant to light a second
field.
The Hawthorne trailhead for the
Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail is located on the
south side of town. Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail State
Park stretches 16 miles through the Paynes Prairie
Preserve State Park and the Lochloosa Wildlife
Management Area and ends at the City of Gainesville's
Boulware Springs Park. The recreational trail is
designed for walking, cycling, and horseback riding.
In addition, we offer a full-service recreation
program. |
