Water
The City of Hawthorne provides water service to over 690 customers.  Water is delivered from two elevated storage tanks of 100,000 gallons and 75,000 gallons.  Three wells with capacities of 400 gpm, 350 gpm, and 300 gpm pump water from the Florida Aquifer.  The water is treated with hypochlorite and aquamet prior to distribution to water customers.

The Water Rates for 2006 are $9.50 for the first 3999 gallons and $1.10 for each additional 1000 gallons.

Sewer
The City of Hawthorne collects wastewater from over 600 customers and delivered to the Wastewater Treatment Plant through the use of 12 lift stations.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant is an activated sludge process with a total capacity of 150Kgpd.  Treated effluent water is discharged to three percolation ponds and biosolids are hauled to Gainesville for further treatment by Gainesville Regional Utilities.

The Sewer Rates for 2006 are $35.00 for the first 6000 gallons and $5.75 for each additional 1000 gallons.

Streets and Street Lighting
The City of Hawthorne maintains over 14 miles of paved roads and about one mile of dirt roads.  Street lighting is provided by the City through Florida Power and Light and Clay Electric.

Parks and Recreation
The City of Hawthorne maintains a city park on Johnson Lake.  This park includes playground facilities, picnic shelters, boat ramp and fishing dock.  We are currently planning a remodeling project for the restroom facilities in the park.

The City's new Recreation Park off of Highway 20 on the northwest side of town has two baseball fields, two softball fields, and a tee-ball field, with full dugouts on all the fields.  One field is has full lighting and the City recently received a grant to light a second field.

The Hawthorne trailhead for the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail is located on the south side of town. Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail State Park stretches 16 miles through the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and the Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area and ends at the City of Gainesville's Boulware Springs Park. The recreational trail is designed for walking, cycling, and horseback riding.

In addition, we offer a full-service recreation program.
